In an interview with Al Jazeera, Fidan maintained that he has consistently recommended that the United States address its differences with Tehran gradually and not as a single package.
Attacking Iran is a mistake, and restarting the war is also a mistake. When negotiations begin, Iran will be prepared to return to the negotiating table on the nuclear issue, the Turkish Foreign Minister emphasized.
He explained that addressing all disagreements simultaneously hinders their resolution and can be counterproductive.
“My consistent advice to the Americans has been to resolve the issues one by one, starting with the nuclear issue and then moving on to other matters,” he added.
Fidan warned that presenting all the demands together not only complicates their understanding by Iran, but could also be perceived as humiliating, making it difficult to explain them to both Iranian leaders and other regional leaders.
Referring to analyses of the possible formation of a new regional order led by the United States alongside strong states and excluding non-state actors, the Turkish Foreign Minister considered that Iran could occupy a relevant position.
“I’m not talking about the current situation, but about the capabilities and potential that Iran can demonstrate,” he clarified.
