Municipal spokesman Hosni Muhanna told the press that the city is suffering a severe crisis, especially in the Old City and the neighborhoods of Al-Zaytoun, Sabra, and Tel al-Hawa.
The problem is exacerbated by the destruction of approximately 150,000 linear meters of water pipes and the desalination plant that supplies the city, he noted.
Muhanna accused the neighboring country of creating the crisis through its continued attacks on the sector in the coastal enclave.
Earlier this year, the municipality denounced the situation, highlighting that the water shortage comes at a time when residents of the city are suffering extremely difficult living conditions due to constant Israeli violations.
In December, Muhanna warned that the metropolis faces a severe humanitarian and environmental crisis following the destruction caused by the aggression.
He explained that the stormwater drainage and sewage system is one of the most affected sectors, having seen its operational capacity reduced by 80 percent.
Israel destroyed all eight operational drainage pumps and some 212,000 linear meters of sewer lines, he revealed.
According to the official, the rate of destruction of Gaza City’s infrastructure reached approximately 85 percent, including some 830 kilometers of the road network.
