This is endorsed in a statement from the Association of Doctors of the Latin American School of Medicine (Amelan-Uruguay).
While Cuba proclaims 2026 as the “Year of the Centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz,” the US responds with a declaration of economic war that seeks to subdue the will of a people once again,” the text states.
The pronouncement condemns the declared intention of President Donald Trump’s administration to cut off fuel supplies to Cuba.
“The blockade is not a policy; it is a prolonged aggression. It does not correct, it does not persuade, it does not build; it suffocates, it sickens, and it seeks to break through hunger and desperation what they could not conquer at the Bay of Pigs or throughout six decades,” it points out.
It affirms that no decree can erase history or break the dignity of a people who stand firm. “Today, doctors trained in Cuba and born in other nations are children of solidarity and ethics that put life above the market,” say the Uruguayan health professionals.
“As doctors, as human beings, children of that profoundly humanist and revolutionary training, we reaffirm that we owe Cuba example, consistency, and memory,” it adds.
“Defending Cuba is a way of understanding humanity.” That is to say, life is worth more than profit, cooperation is worth more than threats, dignity is non-negotiable; he subscribes and concludes that the Island “will never be alone.”
