Ecuadorian antifascist journalists denounce suffocation of Cuba

Quito, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) The Ecuadorian Antifascist Journalists Movement denounced the policy of “total strangulation” that the United States government is applying against Cuba, with threats of sanctions and tariffs against those who supply oil to the island.

The group’s leadership accused Washington of deepening the blockade with the aim of subjugating the Cuban population by collapsing its economy and basic services.

The statement reads that the United States and its president, Donald Trump, seek to undermine Cuba’s sovereignty and set a precedent for control over other countries by warning of possible trade reprisals against nations that maintain energy ties with Havana.

The document remembers how, since 1959, the United States has employed several forms of aggression against the Cuban Revolution, including invasions, covert actions, media warfare, and the economic, commercial, and financial blockade itself, considered a “criminal and sustained” policy.

The statement questions the silence of international organizations and the European Union regarding the tightening of sanctions against the Caribbean nation.

The movement also highlighted Cuba’s history of international solidarity in countries across Africa, Latin America, and Europe, with the deployment of medical brigades in global humanitarian and health emergencies.

“Imperialism is not fought with speeches alone, but with concrete actions and unity among peoples,” the text states, quoting the Heroic Guerrilla Ernesto “Che” Guevara to call for international cooperation against US hegemony.
