Brazilian deputies denounce US offensive to stifle Cuba

Brasilia, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) Brazilian federal deputies Jandira Feghali and Glauber Braga expressed their rejection of the United States' strangling measures against Cuba and reaffirmed their solidarity with the Cuban people.

In a video shared on her X account, Feghali stated that the “US empire,” which acts as if it were “owner of the world,” systematically attacks the sovereignty of nations and the rights of peoples.

In this context, the parliamentarian, a member of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB), warned that the current tightening of sanctions aims to “kill the existence of the Cuban Revolution,” referring to the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump.

This measure declares a national emergency against the Caribbean nation and establishes a process to impose tariffs on countries that sell or supply it with oil.

Feghali warned that the new US attack directly targets the energy supply, a vital resource for electricity generation, food production, and agriculture.

Criticizing the increased tariffs imposed by Washington on countries that trade with Cuba and expressing his outrage at the measure, he noted that some nations, such as China, are resisting these unilateral measures.

In this regard, she considered it essential that the Brazilian government maintain a firm stance against US policy and that society clearly express its solidarity with the Cuban people.

For his part, Braga, of the Socialism and Liberty Party, warned that the US threat to impose further tariffs on countries that sell oil to Cuba will result in less energy, more restrictions on food security, and greater hardship in the daily lives of the Cuban people.
