DRC: Good results predicted for trade deal with UAE

Kinshasa, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) Media outlets in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are highlighting the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) inked with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is expected to bring many benefits to the country.

Signed at Qasr Al Watan Palace in Abu Dhabi in the presence of the presidents of the DRC, Felix Tshisekedi, and the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the agreement marks a new stage that will increase trade and investment flows.

Actualite.CD and the Congolese Press Agency highlighted that the agreement opens the Emirati market to some 6,000 Congolese products and offers new opportunities to national entrepreneurs through reduced customs tariffs, greater security in transactions, and measures to combat smuggling.

It is estimated that investment flows could increase from the current 5 billion dollars to 10 billion dollars by 2030.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed for the Banana deep-water port project, which will provide the DRC with significant maritime infrastructure in Moanda, including a 600-meter pier and a 30-hectare storage area.

The two countries also signed a MoU on diplomatic matters to strengthen collaboration between the Diplomatic Academy of the DRC and the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy (AGDA) of the UAE, regarding knowledge exchange, training programs, research, and diplomatic events.
