Syria foils new drug smuggling attempt to Jordan

Damascus, Feb 3 (Prensa Latina) Syrian authorities foiled a massive drug smuggling attempt destined for Jordan, following a series of operations carried out by the Anti-Narcotics Department in southern regions of the country, the Interior Ministry reported.

In a statement released on its official Telegram channel, the ministry specified that specialized forces carried out “precise and selective” actions against a criminal network dedicated to drug trafficking and smuggling, resulting in the arrest of several individuals involved, as well as the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and sophisticated equipment used for these illicit activities.

According to the Ministry, the seized material included approximately two million Captagon pills, 605 packages of hashish weighing an estimated 151 kilograms, as well as 10 helium cylinders, 75 balloons, 30 plastic mortar rounds, a rocket launcher loaded with drugs, a drone, and various communication devices.

The source indicated that the detainees were handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities and that all the seized items were placed in the custody of the relevant authorities for the application of the corresponding legal measures.

The Ministry of the Interior also noted that during 2025, authorities seized more than 14 laboratories and warehouses in various provinces, in addition to 122 tons of raw materials intended for the manufacture of narcotics.

Authorities also seized 365 million Captagon pills and approximately 13 tons of drugs, including four tons of hashish, two tons of crystal methamphetamine, two tons of cocaine, and three tons of marijuana.

These operations dealt a significant blow to major drug trafficking networks operating at the national and regional levels.
