“At this moment, we are not acting as intermediaries for Israel, Iran, or the United States. In our contacts with them, we are simply discussing this situation. Iran is our close partner and neighbor, and, of course, we are concerned about how things are developing,” Lavrov stated in an interview with RT on Diplomat’s Day.
The head of Russian diplomacy noted that, in particular, this situation “is potentially explosive, not only for Iran itself, but for the entire Middle East.”
The Russian foreign minister added, “There are too many landmines about to explode, waiting for someone to step on them. And I think Tel Aviv, Washington, and Tehran know that we are willing to get involved in resolving differences and fulfilling previously reached agreements.”
Lavrov’s remarks come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, due to Donald Trump’s threats of a military intervension under the initial pretext of domestic protests.
