Composed of 79 members from countries such as Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil, the brigade presented a check for $17,300 to Cuban public health at a farewell ceremony held at the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP).
The Icap president, Fernando Gonzalez said: “This donation is of great value to us because it comes from the solidarity of the people, from the unions, the students, from people who contribute not from what they have to spare, but from what they have, and they give it with love”.
For her part, brigadista Fatima Vazquez, from Montevideo, Uruguay, told Prensa Latina that 48 people from her country are participating in the visit, practicing the purest form of internationalism, as taught to them by the historical leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
During the farewell ceremony, the brigadistas condemned the many forms of imperialist intervention in countries, as well as the genocide against Palestine by Israel, supported by the United States.
They demanded the lifting of the criminal US economic, financial, and commercial blockade against Cuba, and the removal of the island from the US State Department’s list of state sponsors of terrorism.
The visitors pledged to continue defending Cuba and building bonds of solidarity and peace, especially as they join in this year’s celebrations for the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
