Venezuela supports Cuba after 64 years of imposed blockade

Caracas, Feb. 7 (Prensa Latina) Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil expressed his solidarity with the people and government of Cuba on the 64th anniversary of the implementation of the United States' economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the island.

On his Telegram account, the high-ranking diplomat wrote that the “Bolivarian Government stands in solidarity with the brotherly Cuban people and with the government of Miguel Diaz-Canel” in the face of the punitive US policy, which he described as an “inhumane blockade.” He also expressed gratitude for Havana’s “unwavering solidarity” with Venezuela, even under threats from Washington.

He emphasized that this support “is deeply etched in the annals of history with the heroism of the 32 Cubans who lost their lives defending our homeland, which is also theirs.”

The Bolivarian Foreign Minister remembered that on February 7, 1962, “one of the vilest crimes against humanity” was perpetrated when US President John F. Kennedy formalized a total economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba.

He stated that its objective was to economically suffocate the island as punishment for the exercise of Cuban sovereignty under the Revolution led by Fidel Castro, which liberated the nation from the Yankee yoke.

He added that this blockade also established alliances with the peoples of the world who “sought sovereignty, social justice, and a world free from foreign impositions.”
