The initiatives adopted by Israel pave the way for an accelerated expansion of settlements in the West Bank, the UN agency denounced on the social network X.
Such a strategy further undermines the future of the Palestinians and is “a procedure for greater control, despair, and violence,” it wrote.
UNRWA asserted that such projects also represent a new blow to international law and set a dangerous precedent that will have global repercussions.
The Israeli security cabinet approved the cancellation of a ban on the sale of West Bank land to Jews and the declassification of land registry records there to facilitate its acquisition.
It also sanctioned the transfer to Israeli authorities of planning for construction on religious sites and other sensitive locations in the Palestinian city of Hebron, home to a small Jewish community.
The measures sparked a wave of international criticism, including from several European countries allied with Israel, as well as from Muslim and Arab nations.
Palestinian society, political parties, and the government also denounced the plans of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right partners in power.
