Zakharova describes US actions against Cuba as “energy blockade”

Moscow, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described on Thursday the actions taken by the US administration against Cuba as an "energy blockade."

Zakharova stated, “The unprecedented measures adopted by the United States to block the supply of energy carriers to Cuba, that is, an energy blockade that includes aviation fuel, have stirred up a serious situation that also affects flights by Russian airlines.”

The spokeswoman condemned, in her usual weekly press briefing, the measures implemented by Washington against Havana, stating that, in addition to exacerbating the energy crisis, including the disruption of air travel to the Caribbean nation, they are also designed to provoke discontent among the local population and foreigners who experience difficulties in this context.

The diplomat recalled that the White House has maintained the blockade against Cuba for several decades.

She criticized, “Now this situation has simply reached an absurd point, because they are economically and logistically attacking precisely those people whom they claimed to ‘protect’ for so many years, speaking of human rights.”

Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov previously stated that Moscow is analyzing possible ways to help Cuba, a nation he described as a “friendly country.”
