Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera that the peace plan presented by the United States consists of 20 interconnected points, which must be fully implemented.
Abdelatty warned that focusing on some provisions and ignoring others would undermine the process.
The foreign minister stressed, as an example, that the Israeli withdrawal from the coastal enclave to a buffer zone is an integral part of the plan, and in this sense, he considered that the leading obstacles to the initiative come from the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He also referred to the “innovative ideas” being analyzed to address arms control in Gaza through Palestinian consensus.
Both the United States and Israel are pressuring for the disarmament of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian militias, although these groups reject this option as long as the occupation continues.
