Unions for Cuba reject US hostilities

Buenos Aires, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) The Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of State Workers (CLATE) joined dozens of trade union organizations from Argentina, Canada, Spain, the United States and Mexico to reject the hostility that is now growing in the United States against Cuba.

At the same time, Clate and the other trade union groups called for a campaign of solidarity and support to the Cuban people, in the International Trade Union Meeting of Solidarity with the Island, in which they participated by video conference.

In the face-to-face meeting and by video conference that took place at the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, the participants agreed to deepen the campaign of solidarity to help the Cuban people resist the policy of economic asphyxiation imposed by the Donald Trump administration and its threats against countries that wish to help the island.

Julio Fuentes, president of Clate, whose headquarters is in Buenos Aires, undertook the commitment to deepen effective and active solidarity with Cuba by accompanying the hundred organizations that make up the Confederation.

International representatives agreed on the need to develop and distribute audiovisual capsules with messages of support aimed at the Cuban people, in order to make global trade union solidarity visible and support the island’s demands on the international stage.

The meeting reaffirmed the articulation between labor organizations of different continents and their call to defend sovereignty and social rights against coercive external measures.

In Argentina, groups friendly to the Caribbean nation launched various campaigns in several cities to collect donations, in order to acquire materials needed today for the people of the island such as solar panels, medical supplies and food.
