Media highlights condemnation of US blockade against Cuba

Havana, Feb 16 (Prensa Latina) Local media outlets highlighted the condemnation of the economic war waged by the United States government against Cuba, issued by the island's Deputy Foreign Minister, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio.

The Deputy Minister denounced in Havana the hostility of the US government that the Caribbean nation has faced for more than six decades and also criticized the media’s treatment of Washington’s policies against the Cuban people.

“Fernandez de Cossio stated that US media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and The Economist describe the situation in Cuba without impartiality, showing enthusiasm for the country’s difficulties and omitting critical judgments about the aggressor,” according to reports in Granma and Juventud Rebelde, among other digital and print media.

“Fernandez de Cossio stated that US media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal and The Economist describe the situation in Cuba without impartiality, showing enthusiasm for the country’s difficulties and omitting critical judgments about the aggressor,” according to Granma and Juventud Rebelde, among other digital and print media.

Furthermore, they add, “he stated that the current situation is a consequence of a prolonged policy of hostility, characterized by disproportionate, ruthless, and asymmetrical actions aimed at weakening the Cuban economy and society.”

“Cuba has the accumulated experience in self-defense against 67 years of imperialist aggression, as well as a system of social justice that allows for the adoption of equitable measures to protect the population,” he noted.

According to the texts, for the official, “the Cuban socialist model facilitates the priority allocation of resources, encourages solidarity, and mobilizes the national will to face current challenges.”

On the other hand, they assert that he highlighted on his Facebook profile “the letter disseminated by The People’s Forum, signed by artists and personalities such as Jane Fonda, Ed Harris, Indya Moore, Silvio Rodriguez, Roger Waters, and Tatiana Maslany, who demanded an end to the policy of strangulation against Cuba.”

According to the document, the oil blockade imposed by the US administration threatens to close hospitals and schools, while solidarity organizations are sending generators and solar panels to ensure electricity supply to health centers, according to news reports.
