“We had a fruitful meeting with the Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez,” the high-ranking Bolivarian diplomat announced in his social network Telegram account.

Gil said that, on the occasion, they reaffirmed “our brotherhood and mutual solidarity as nations committed to defending their sovereignty, self-determination and the truth of our peoples.”

The meeting took place in the context of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC).

During this Monday’s address to the meeting, the Venezuelan FM said that human rights cannot be an instrument of political war, selective or dependent on ideological alignments.

Gil warned that the global protection system risks losing its original purpose under methods of ideological confrontation.

“That is the central message we bring to this Council today: human rights cannot be an instrument of political war, they cannot be selective or depend on ideological alignments,” he stressed.

The Venezuelan official expressed his country’s concern about the double standard of what he called geopolitically selective power centers, which exercise “disproportionate scrutiny” on certain countries and ignore serious humanitarian situations that require urgent attention.

He mentioned, in this regard, the devastation of the Palestinian people by Israel in the Gaza Strip, where more than 80,000 people, including children and women, lost their lives as a result of systematic aggression and tens of thousands are now suffering a humanitarian crisis.

En ese sentido, Gil instó al Consejo para los Derechos Humanos a “recuperar su credibilidad” como un espacio universal comprometido con todos los pueblos por igual.

Advirtió que, si los DDHH se convierten en herramienta de presión política, estos pierden su esencia moral y legitimidad.
