Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil reported a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart, Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, with the “purpose of reaffirming the brotherhood between our peoples.”
“From Geneva, in the context of the Human Rights Council, we held a bilateral meeting with the Palestinian Foreign Minister,” the high-ranking diplomat stated on his Telegram account.
On behalf of the Bolivarian Government, Gil expressed “solidarity and unconditional support for the Palestinian cause, which today stands as the moral compass of all humanity.”
Speaking yesterday at the high-level segment of the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister warned that the global human rights protection system risks losing its original purpose under methods of ideological confrontation.
“That is the central message we bring to this Council today (yesterday): Human Rights cannot be an instrument of political warfare, they cannot be selective, nor can they depend on ideological alignments,” he emphasized.
He expressed his country’s concern about the double standards of what he called the selective geopolitics of centers of power, which exert “disproportionate scrutiny” on certain countries while ignoring serious humanitarian situations that require urgent attention.
