About 350,000 children displaced in Lebanon, NGO warns

Beirut, March 27 (Prensa Latina) Some 350,000 children have been displaced by Israeli bombings of Lebanon and are the most affected by the ongoing war, the NGO Save the Children warned today.

The organization highlighted that in total, more than 1.2 million people have left their homes due to the conflict, representing a fifth of the country’s population.

One in five children was forced to flee their homes in just one month as the conflagration in Lebanon and the region triggers a massive wave of displacement, Save the Children Executive Director Inger Ashing stated.

According to the report, Ashing visited Beirut, where she met with some displaced children and families.

The activist warned that children are “bearing the brunt of the crisis, abruptly losing access to the safety of their homes, their schools, their friends, and access to healthcare and other essential services.”

Many are frightened and facing severe emotional distress, she said after her contacts in the capital.

“No child should have to run for their life in the middle of the night. Yet today in Lebanon, this is happening to many families,” she said.

Ashing stated that children are being pushed beyond their limits and noted that many are exhausted and traumatized.

The world cannot look the other way; we need action, and we need it now, she stressed.

“This is not just a displacement crisis: it is a children’s crisis,” the Save the Children executive director emphasized.
