The organization, which brings together former officials, diplomats, and academics, condemned, in a statement published here, the “historical and political shortsightedness” of the administration of President Jose Antonio Kast, which withdrew its support.

Kast seriously compromises, with this decision, Chile’s credibility as a reliable and predictable partner in the multilateral system, the text states, and remembers that the president stands distance from the position of Brazil and Mexico, the two largest countries in the region.

The Forum warns that beyond the current situation, the country’s historical record will register that a Chilean government withdrew its support for a former president of the Republic.

The Forum affirms that, due to her work, Bachelet is a highly suitable figure to hold that important post.

Founded in 2019, the FPPE comprises 75 prominent figures, former ministers and ambassadors, and its members include Carlos Ominami, Isabel Allende, Sergio Bitar, Mariano Fernandez, Patricia Esquenazi, and Marta Lagos, among others.
