The installation, carried out by the Hydraulic Works Construction Company, already has 174 panel arrays installed. This will allow the first inverter to be activated in April while the assembly of the second half of the project continues.
An investment by the Holguin Electricity Company, the center will contribute with five megawatts (MW) of generation capacity.
This capacity is complemented by one MW of battery storage to store energy and use it at different times.
Serones I is part of a donation from the People’s Republic of China that includes 85 MW across the country. Of that total, 40 MW correspond to this region, distributed among various parks of five to ten thousand watts.
This project complements Serones II wind farm, also located in Mayari, which was connected to the grid in 2025. It was the first of the seven sites donated by the Asian nation to become operational.
The commissioning of these facilities strengthens the development of renewable energy sources in the region. Furthermore, it contributes to the stability of the electrical service and the shift in the nation’s energy mix.
