The Health Minister noted that the funding, in coordination with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), will allow for the modernization of the cold chain, expand the capacity to respond to health emergencies, and strengthen child protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.
According to the Jornal de Angola, Lutucuta highlighted that the contribution will also support rapid response actions to outbreaks of measles, cholera, polio, and diphtheria, as well as the implementation of social mobilization and communication initiatives to combat misinformation, among other activities.
With this funding, the country will be able to intensify its vaccination efforts in 12 priority provinces, including three rounds of routine immunization boosters, to reach 480,000 children throughout 2026.
The Korean ambassador here, Kwangjin Choi, stated that the gesture is “yet another example of the strong and enduring collaboration” with the Angolan people to achieve the shared goal of universal immunization, coinciding with the 34th anniversary of diplomatic relations, as reported by Jornal de Angola. The donation will support the country’s logistical capacity, including the installation of 60 solar-powered refrigerators, the training of more than 1,000 social mobilizers, community health workers, health technicians, and religious leaders, and the acquisition of 60 motorcycles and 60 cargo tricycles for transporting vaccines and mobile equipment in hard-to-reach areas.
