Turkiye calls for a swift end to the conflict in Ukraine

Ankara, April 2 (Prensa Latina) Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz called for a swift end to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, speaking at the meeting of the Organization of Turkic States held in the Azerbaijani capital, the Anadolu newspaper reported.

During his speech at the second meeting of heads of government and vice presidents of the regional bloc, Yılmaz emphasized Ankara’s willingness to boost all necessary actions to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, based on international law.

“We would like the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which has already lasted five years, to end as soon as possible,” the high-ranking Turkish official told representatives of the organization’s member countries.

Analysts consulted by the newspaper noted that Türkiye has maintained an active mediating role since the beginning of hostilities, achieving agreements such as the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

Specialists emphasize that Ankara seeks to balance its relations with Moscow and Kiev without severing ties with either side.

Yılmaz added that positive changes are currently being observed in the region, although he did not offer details on any concrete progress in the peace negotiations. The vice president reiterated Turkiye’s commitment to regional stability.

Turkiye’s statement comes at a time when several international actors are redoubling diplomatic efforts to find a solution to the conflict, which recently surpassed two years of large-scale escalation.

Geopolitical experts point out that Ankara’s support for a negotiated solution reflects its strategic interest in maintaining open channels of dialogue with both opposing nations.
