Cuba emphasizes on the importance of nature tourism

Havana, April 3 (Prensa Latina) Experts from the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) and Cuban travel guides emphasized the importance of nature, adventure, and rural tourism for the country.

This opinion is confirmed by many travelers consulted, especially during a month that is significant for one of the country’s most important areas for this type of tourism: the Zapata Swamp and its two beaches, Girón and Larga, and their respective villages.

Cuban authorities repeatedly reiterate their commitment to sustainable nature tourism, with the greatest possible environmental protection. An international nature tourism conference (Turnat), scheduled for September in the Zapata Swamp, serves as a showcase of this commitment.

The Zapata Swamp Natural Park is the best-preserved wetland in the insular Caribbean, boasting a high rate of endemism, four types of mangroves, and 34,000 hectares of wetlands.

It encompasses 115 endemic plant species, 258 bird species (24 of which are endemic), 16 amphibians, and 36 types of reptiles, among many other attractions.

The park features nature interpretation trails, such as Las Salinas, a 21-kilometer area for three-hour hikes that include bus rides.

Strolling, fishing, diving, photography excursions, birdwatching, discussions with local experts, and other attractions highlight the importance of places like this for nature tourism in Cuba.
