Italian national federation joins initiative to support Cuba

Rome, Apr 6 (Prensa Latina) The National Federation of Consumers and Users (Federconsumatori), one of Italy's largest consumer and user organizations, has joined the call for an upcoming march in Rome against the United States' blockade on Cuba.

In a statement entitled “We cannot remain impassive while an entire nation is being subjugated,” Federconsumatori calls on all citizens to participate in the massive demonstration to be held in the Italian capital, which already has the support of dozens of organizations.

The text refers to the recent tightening of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation, following President Donald Trump’s signing of an executive order aimed at preventing fuel entry to Cuba, a genocidal measure seeking to cause serious economic and social problems.

The document states, “The oil blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba adds to other economic measures that have already caused hardship for the population,” and, as a consequence, “the entire economic system of the island is severely affected, further complicating the already complex living conditions of its inhabitants.”

It emphasizes that this concerns “the obstinate desire to subjugate an entire people on the part of those who, especially in the current international political situation, are disregarding the most basic principles of international law.”

The statement emphasizes that “for these reasons, Federconsumatori firmly supports the April 11 demonstration in Rome, convened by the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) to denounce that economic, commercial, and financial blockade and its devastating consequences for the population.”

The call for this march, also boosted by the Gianni Mina Foundation, has the support of important groups such as the Global Peace Mobilization Network, the Italian Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC), and the Italian General Confederation of Labor (CGIL), among other organizations.
