In a moving ceremony marking the local government’s decision to end the existing bilateral agreement gradually, Ana Cintron, president of the Association, described the importance of the legacy left by the Cuban doctors.
Cintron underscored before other members of the Association, the diplomatic corps of the Cuban Embassy in Guatemala, and a group of healthcare professionals that this era will remain in the collective memory of the Guatemalans.
Vice President Ruth del Valle deemed it shameful that her country is closing its doors to healthcare and cooperation.
Del Valle stated that Cuba is, for her, a benchmark because they have always received the solidarity of its people and its progress, despite the economic blockade imposed by the United States.
Cuban Ambassador to Guatemala, Nazario Fernandez, first paid special tribute to Commander-in-Chief of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, the inspiration behind these values that resonate throughout the world.
Fernandez stated how Cuban doctors are present in 16 out of 22 departments of this nation, in dozens of municipalities and villages, where there is a need and a different challenge in the health area, which they have taken on with dedication.
