“We welcome the declaration of an Easter truce, and we hope that its observance will allow many people living in the war zones to attend Easter liturgies safely,” the spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church, Vladimir Legoida, posted on the Telegram social network.
On Thursday, Putin instructed Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov to halt hostilities on all fronts from 4:00 PM (Moscow time) on April 11 until the end of April 12, and to be prepared to suppress any provocations and aggressive actions from the opposing side.
“We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow the example of the Russian Federation,” the official statement added.
At the end of March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine was prepared for a ceasefire during this year’s Easter holidays.
In 2025, Putin also declared an Easter truce with Ukraine. However, at the end of that period, the Russian Defense Ministry reported 4,900 violations by Kiev’s troops.
