Russia outlines requirements for new UN Secretary-General

Moscow, Apr 12 (Prensa Latina) The new UN Secretary-General must work to guarantee the interests of member States, Kirill Logvinov, director of the International Organizations' Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, expressed.

Logvinov told RIA Novosti news agency that the new UN Secretary-General must maintain a balanced approach and work to ensure the interests of all States, not just a particular group.

The diplomat stated, “The time has come to put an end to the bias of UN officials. The future UN Secretariat chief must maintain a balanced approach and recognize the urgent need to address the root causes of the current crises; otherwise, achieving a long-term solution will be impossible.”

He noted that the new UN official should also be guided by the consensus decisions reached by member States, refraining from making legal judgments about their actions. “And this does not only apply to Ukrainian issues,” he pointed out.

Logvinov emphasized that the future UN head cannot allow the organization to become once again an appendage of the foreign policy agencies of the Western minority.
