In a press conference, the spokesman explained that Washington’s contradictory positions and its repeated violations of ceasefire agreements show, in his view, a lack of seriousness in the diplomatic process.
Baghaei also denounced what he called the United States’ failure to honor its commitments, as well as actions considered hostile, including the naval blockade and attacks against Iranian vessels, which, he asserted, contravene international resolutions.
The spokesman emphasized that the discrepancies between US rhetoric and actions increase doubts within Iranian society about Washington’s true intentions, and reiterated that Tehran will prioritize its national interests.
He also asserted that the Iranian government “will not forget the repeated diplomatic betrayals” attributed to the United States.
These statements come amid conflicting reports regarding the possible participation of an Iranian delegation in the talks planned for Islamabad. According to local media reports, Tehran conditioned its presence on the lifting of the US Navy blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Pakistani authorities reported the arrival in Islamabad of a preliminary delegation from Washington, while security measures were reinforced in the capital in anticipation of the meeting.
The context is marked by recent tensions between the two nations, following an armed conflict that began in late February and left thousands of victims, followed by a temporary ceasefire announced on April 8 with Pakistan’s mediation.
