Prensa Latina workers sign for the homeland

Havana, Apr 24 (Prensa Latina) Workers of the Latin American News Agency Prensa Latina today ratified their commitment to the Revolution by supporting the initiative "Mi firma por la Patria" (My signature for the Homeland), an action of Cuban civil society that rejects the US blockade.

At the agency’s headquarters, members of Prensa Latina backed with their signature the denunciation of the damage caused by the energy blockade in Washington and reaffirmed the defense of national sovereignty, as part of the celebrations for the Centenary of the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro and in greeting the coming May Day.

The proposal, which seeks to channel citizens’ support for the country’s independence, received the support of the highest Cuban authorities on April 19 during the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of the victory of Playa Giron, in 1961.

The head of the Ideological Department of the Communist Party of Cuba, Yuniasky Crespo, highlighted during the meeting the efforts of Prensa Latina to achieve financing and sovereignty in a context of real threats of military aggression by the US government.

“Signing today is also about being sovereign. Not only to guarantee personal and family peace and our own sovereignty as a country, but also the well-being and stability of our colleagues on missions abroad”, said Crespo.

The leader stressed that journalists and workers of the agency abroad become “a point of sight” for those who oppose Cuba, and emphasized the importance that the truth of the island being reflected in the world, founding mission of Prensa Latina.

For his part, the president of Prensa Latina, Jorge Legañoa, said that signing for the homeland is also “to remember a founder like Jorge Ricardo Masetti,” who was the agency’s first director, and advocate for peace in Cuba.

The signing day at Prensa Latina is added to those held in other workplaces, students and community centers of the country, as part of a citizen mobilization that rejects the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for more than six decades.

During the day, Legañoa updated the workers on the efforts being made to achieve the change of energy matrix in the Agency, which already has the installation of photovoltaic equipment to continue its informative mission.
