Guatemala City, Apr 27 (Prensa Latina) A group of 46 Cuban healthcare workers will return to their homeland from Guatemala, with several expressions of admiration and the satisfaction of the mission accomplished, after completing their internationalist mission.

Given the announcement in February by the local government that entails the phased termination of the current bilateral agreement, representatives of the Cuban state mission in Guatemala bid farewell to this second group.

Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Nazario Fernandez, underscored, in the simple but moving ceremony held in this capital, that this was no ordinary farewell: “It is a recognition of a silent, constant, and deeply humane work that left its mark on communities, families, and hearts.”

Fernandez said, “From day one, you embodied the principle expressed by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro: ‘To be internationalist is to repay our debt to humanity.'”

The ambassador stated, “You did so in every consultation, diagnosis, in every gesture of comfort, you brought not only knowledge, but also dignity, commitment, and solidarity. Wherever there was need, you responded with dedication; where there was pain, you offered care; where there was uncertainty, you gave confidence.”

During the event, in which participants also paid tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on his 100th birthday, Fernandez wished the aid workers a safe return home.
