The events commemorating the date, “in addition to six decades of infamous and criminal commercial and financial blockade by the United States, face an oil siege ordered by the White House, which threatens a military intervention against the island,” an article by local journalist Rafael Ugalde states.
The Martyrs’ Claim comment remembers, “Washington and Havana had a recent, particularly contradictory meeting, because while it was taking place, US President Donald Trump once again placed the island on the radar of a possible escalation.”
Ugalde, who is also a lawyer and renowned Costa Rican intellectual, alluded to the contradictory and threatening attitude by the US president amid the current tensions, “when suggesting that Cuba could be the next target, after other conflict scenarios.”
The journalist said, “The so-called ‘Trumpism’ knows how to bully everyone. No one doubts that. But it has no idea about the history of the Cuban people.”
The columnist quoted Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, who “stopped dead Trump, describing his threats as ‘serious’ and a ‘challenge to the island’s sovereignty.'”
