In a message posted on the social network X, the Foreign Minister described Turner as “a creator and innovator in the field of communications, who understood the advantages of a potential friendly relationship between Cuba and the US and strove to contribute to that end.”
Ted Turner, founder of CNN and a pioneer of 24-hour television, died this Wednesday at the age of 87, according to a statement from Turner Enterprises.
The businessman, born in Ohio and based in Atlanta, built a media empire that included the first cable television superstation, movie and animation channels, as well as the Atlanta Braves sports team.
Turner also distinguished himself as an international sailor, a philanthropist and founder of the United Nations Foundation, an anti-nuclear weapons activist, and a conservationist who became one of the largest landowners in the United States.
