Signatures denouncing Washington’s threats of war against Cuba and Mexico were added in response to a public appeal promoted by engineer and academic Gregory Randall.
The United States government is carrying out very aggressive and destructive actions in our continent; therefore, this call is for peace, the self-determination of peoples, respect for international law, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
An initiative promoted by agricultural engineer and researcher at the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), José Paruelo, was also made public this week. It was contained in an appeal to the U.S. scientific community, which he discussed with Prensa Latina.
The situation in Cuba, from a humanitarian perspective, is truly critical, and the fundamental cause is the intensification of the “economic war” waged for over 60 years against the Caribbean nation,” he stated.
As members of the Uruguayan academic community, we are convinced that solidarity with Cuba is an act of justice, Paruelo added, echoing the appeal to his colleagues in the United States.
The Cuban people are enduring with dignity the hardships caused by the U.S. blockade. For this reason, Uruguay, grateful for Cuban solidarity, held a concert in support of the Caribbean nation, and raised funds and medical supplies.
