Iran and the US: possible agreement on the Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, May 28 (Prensa Latina) The Iranian government asserted that Washington has committed to lifting the naval blockade imposed on the Persian nation in exchange for the restoration of commercial maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz to pre-conflict levels.

According to Iranian state television, the understanding is part of a draft 14-point memorandum between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Pakistan.

The report states that Iran would agree to normalize commercial navigation through the Strait of Hormuz within one month, while the United States would lift the maritime restrictions imposed since April.

The report pointed out that military vessels would be excluded from the agreement and that the monitoring of maritime routes would be jointly coordinated by Iran and Oman.

It also stated that Washington has committed to reducing its military presence in areas near Iran, although negotiations continue regarding the extent of this withdrawal.

Iranian television reported that the potential memorandum could be submitted to the UN Security Council for adoption as a binding resolution if both sides reach a final agreement within 60 days.

So far, US authorities have not commented on the information released by Iranian media.
