In a statement published on their Facebook profile and delivered to the Cuban Embassy, the group asserted that this policy is a form of collective punishment intended to exert pressure on the Caribbean nation and interfere with its sovereign right to freely decide its political, economic, and social future.
The Syrian graduates pointed out that the blockade has been condemned repeatedly by the international community and the United Nations General Assembly, while reaffirming their respect for the will of the Cuban people and their rejection of unilateral coercive measures.
The statement also highlighted the moral and human debt felt by hundreds of Syrians educated at Cuban universities, which for decades opened their doors to foreign students and shared knowledge, culture, and values of internationalist solidarity.
“Cuba taught us that true solidarity consists of sharing what one has with other peoples, not what is left over,” the signatories stated, recalling that thousands of young people from different countries received education and support thanks to the island’s humanitarian spirit.
The declaration concluded with a call to support the Cuban people in their aspirations for development, stability, and well-being, free from policies of economic strangulation, and reiterated their “eternal solidarity with Cuba and its noble people.”
