“The president of the Kazakh Nuclear Energy Agency, Almasadam Satkaliyev, and the director general of the Rosatom corporation, Alexei Likhachev, exchanged intergovernmental agreements on the basic principles and conditions of cooperation in the project to build the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan,” Kazakh TV announced.
The Russian corporation Rosatom, a world leader in the nuclear energy sector, was awarded the contract to build the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan.
Preliminary work began in August 2025 in the area of the Kazakh village of Ulken, on the shores of Lake Balkhash.
Russia and Kazakhstan also signed an agreement to expand cooperation in the oil sector.
The document was signed by Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Tsiviliov.
Russia exports oil to China and other Asian countries via Kazakh territory. The Central Asian state also ships crude oil to international markets via Russian territory.
