State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian reiterated the rejection of any attempt to boost the island’s independence with external support.
Zhu responded to recent comments by Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council on the need to strengthen Taipei’s relations with Washington and Tokyo.
The spokesperson noted that these statements show the persistence of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in a separatist position that favors Taiwan independence.
Zhu affirmed that the strategy of seeking support from external forces to boost independence is a provocation aimed at undermining stability in the Taiwan Strait.
