Narendra Modi becomes India’s longest-serving prime minister

New Delhi, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister Narendra Modi became the longest-serving elected head of Government in Indian history, with about 12 years in power.

The press reported that Modi was first sworn in on May 26, 2014, surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru, who served as prime minister from May 13, 1952, to May 27, 1964.

The reports describe this as a particularly remarkable achievement given the scale and complexity of governance in India, a nation of more than 1.4 billion people characterized by extraordinary linguistic, cultural, religious, and geographical diversity.

NewsOnAir noted that in a time when many countries have experienced political turmoil, frequent changes of government, and uncertainty, India has enjoyed continuity in leadership and governance.

The news radio service noted that independent global polls have consistently ranked Modi among the world’s most popular leaders.
