Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), speaking at the two-day event on the theme “Best Practices and Innovative Solutions for Job Creation in Africa,” outlined five priority areas for growth in the sector.
Gatete mentioned strengthening skills development, scaling businesses beyond survival, accelerating industrialization and value addition, leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for regional value chains, and reinforcing implementation capacity and accountability.
The ECA executive secretary emphasized that, without effective implementation, even well-designed policies risk failing to deliver significant results.
He concluded by urging African stakeholders to focus on implementation, recognizing that the continent already possesses the resources, talent, and ideas necessary to transform its economic trajectory.
The Forum, convened by the ECA, featured thematic discussions, innovation showcases, and collaboration sessions aimed at identifying scalable solutions for job creation and inclusive development.
