In a video released by the Carioca Committee of Solidarity with Cuba, nine healthcare professionals remembered their academic training in the Caribbean nation and express gratitude for the opportunity they received and for its altruistic and internationalist spirit.

“I am a doctor trained in Cuba,” the doctors, who identify themselves as Ozeias de Paula dos Reis, Tania Barbosa, Daniele, Bianca, Camila Negreiros, Cassandra Renaut, Leandro Nascimento Bertoldi, Moara Rodrigues, and Pamela Menendez, said with joy.

They emphasize that they are among the more than 30,000 people who have graduated from Cuban medical schools from various parts of the world.

The doctors describe Cuba as a Caribbean nation marked by a unique history and the consequences of the US embargo, which, they affirm, limits access to technologies, medicines, supplies, and food, in addition to hindering trade relations with other countries and companies.

“Cuba continues to be an example of solidarity for the world,” the participants in the video state, highlighting the role played by medical brigades from the Caribbean nation in various regions of the globe.

They also affirm that they have learned from the Cuban reality the need to guarantee medical care without discrimination and based on principles of equity and social justice.

The video concludes with a statement that summarizes the sentiment shared by the participants: “Cuba resists, Cuba teaches, and Cuba saves lives.”
