Qalibaf posted an image on his X (formerly Twitter) account showing the text of Article 5 of the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States, accompanied by that statement.
The Iranian official also warned Washington that it must honor its commitments or “pay the consequences.”
These statements came after Tehran and Washington exchanged military strikes on Sunday night, marking a new escalation of tensions between the two countries.
Following those clashes, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic until further notice, citing an insecure situation caused by foreign interference.
The Gulf region has been experiencing rising tension since the military confrontation between the United States, Israel, and Iran began on February 28.
Although Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18, reciprocal attacks continue, as do negotiations between the two sides—mediated by Qatar and Pakistan—in an effort to reach a definitive agreement.
