Angolan President Joao Lourenco sent a letter to his Ugandan counterpart, which was delivered by Angolan Foreign Minister Tete Antonio, acting as the President’s special envoy.
The Foreign Ministry noted in a statement that the message expressed the deep feelings of friendship and brotherhood that unite Angola and Uganda, and requested the support of the highest authority of that African country for the candidacy for the position of FAO Director-General, which was immediately accepted by Museveni.
The Ugandan head of State noted at the meeting that Africans must remain united and support each other on matters of strategic importance for the continent.
The Foreign Ministry stated that Angola’s campaign for the FAO’s leadership is based on the conviction that African leadership at the head of that organization can contribute to strengthening international cooperation in the fight against hunger, food insecurity, and poverty.
