As part of this effort, the leader visited industrial sites in the Havana municipality of Habana del Este on Tuesday, including the construction of the country’s first public charging station for electric vehicles, located on the Vía Blanca highway, which connects Havana and Matanzas.
Built by the MSME (micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise) 5ta. Avenida Motores, the station will be powered by renewable energy from solar panels and will allow seven vehicles to charge simultaneously, the Presidency detailed on its official website.
This innovative project, located in the Peñas Altas community in Guanabo, will create new local jobs, restore 11 neighborhood buildings, illuminate the entire area with solar lights, and revitalize a nearby dilapidated service station.
Díaz-Canel also toured the Guanabo Industrial Basic Business Unit, where he learned about a project to assemble and weld 250 “Ampiroll” containers, intended primarily for waste collection in the capital.
The head of state emphasized the importance of companies embracing the autonomy brought about by approved economic and social transformations, and underscored that the Cuban business sector must prepare for this new scenario of greater responsibilities.
During a visit to the Havana municipality of Boyeros, he spoke with local authorities about key issues such as electricity supply, water distribution, and food; regarding the latter, he highlighted the citizen support system—specifically aid for vulnerable individuals—and the role played by economic actors in the current context.
Municipalities—the government structures closest to the people—are ideal settings for gaining a better understanding of the population’s daily challenges; hence, these dialogues are vital for finding timely solutions.
