Cuba reports electric collapse amidst US economic asphyxiation

Havana, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodriguez, today denounced that the collapse of the National Electrical System (SEN) occurs in a context of maximum asphyxiation of the economy and the electrical sector of the country by the United States.

“The genocidal oil fence has not been enough for him. It persecutes and sanctions Cuban and foreign companies linked to this strategic area”, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said in his account on social network X.

He also warned that US rulers, particularly their secretary of state, Marco Rubio, don’t care about the suffering of thousands of families, the hundreds of hospitals without power, or food waste due to lack of refrigeration.

“They condemn the people of Cuba to collective punishment with only one purpose: to destroy the Revolution, its achievements and its history. #CubaNoEsUnaAmenaza. The blockade yes”, he added in his message.

The SEN was restored this Wednesday at 07:00 local time, after the total collapse the previous day due to the exit of unit one of the thermoelectric Felton, reported the Unión Eléctrica de Cuba (UNE), (Cuban Power Union).

As the head of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O’Levy, told the press, this interruption, the third in the last eight days, is due to an electrical system severely affected by the blockade and, in particular, by the executive order of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, aimed at banning the entry of oil to Cuba.

He explained that in the country there is a total absence of fuel and does not have access to spare parts for thermoelectric units or those of Energás.

Since the end of 2024, the SEN has suffered several total disconnections, amid the multi-billion-dollar effects of the economic siege maintained for more than 60 years by Washington against the Caribbean country, which prevents access to the resources necessary for the maintenance and development of the sector.
