Tahan explained in a video released by the Interior Ministry that these operations are part of the joint efforts of that institution and intelligence services to combat DAESH, cut off its sources of funding, and thwart its plans against the Syrian State and society.
The Ministry also revealed details of the attack conducted by the organization against the Mar Elias Church in the Damascus neighborhood of Duelaa on June 22, 2025, as well as a simultaneous plan to attack the Shiite shrine of al-Sayyida Zaynab.
The institution noted that both actions sought to destabilize the Syrian social structure and incite public opinion against the new State.
Tahan explained that DAESH took advantage of the initial period following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, marked by the collapse of the military and security bodies and the absence of forces responsible for maintaining order.
