In a message posted on X, the Cuban foreign minister conveyed fraternal support “to the government and people of Canada” in the face of blazes described as “massive in scale, ravaging the province of Ontario and threatening to spread to various localities across the country.”
There are currently around 900 active wildfires in Canada, with the most severe impact in the province of Ontario, where the fire has spread across more than 735,000 hectares.
Cities such as Toronto have experienced deteriorating air quality due to smoke—a phenomenon that has also spread to the northeastern United States.
Wildfires have intensified in various regions of the world in recent years as a result of prolonged droughts, high temperatures, and other effects linked to climate change.
This situation has prompted international bodies to emphasize the need to strengthen joint prevention, adaptation, and response efforts regarding these disasters.
