Corruption and insecurity are top concerns for Panamanians

Panama City, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Corruption and insecurity have solidified their positions as the primary concerns for Panamanians, according to the "Vea Panama" survey conducted by the firm Prodigious Consulting and the newspaper *La Estrella de Panama*.

The study points out that corruption remains the main problem perceived by the public, with its significance increasing compared to the April measurement.

The percentage of respondents identifying it as the country’s biggest challenge rose from 27.5% to 33.1%, an increase of 5.6 percentage points.

The poll also revealed growing detachment from political organizations, and the National Assembly (parliament) recorded its lowest public approval rating in July.

It reads that 72.9% of those surveyed rated the legislature’s performance negatively, compared to 68.3% in April.

Regarding the legislature’s performance, 72.3% of respondents gave a negative assessment—with 54.8% considering it “bad” and 17.5% “very bad”—while only 16% expressed a favorable opinion.

When asked about measures to improve the National Assembly’s image, respondents pointed to the need for greater transparency and efficiency in the use of public resources; a reduction in lawmakers’ privileges and expenses; the passing of laws that benefit the general population; and greater accountability and closer ties to the public.
