Cuban electricity company highlights workers’ efforts

Havana, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) The Havana Electricity Company (EELH) highlighted the work of its employees amidst a complex situation for the service in Cuba, driven by generating units lacking fuel and others affected by breakdowns.

“For those working to serve the public, there are no nights, early morning hours, weekends, or rest—save for the satisfaction of having completed the day’s task with the utmost dedication,” the EELH noted on its social media channels.

An official update on the status of the National Electric Power System (SEN) reported a peak deficit of 1,883 MW last night and projects a shortfall of 2,080 MW for this Sunday.

It reported breakdowns at five thermoelectric plants and maintenance work at others.

Regarding the 54 solar photovoltaic parks, the report indicated that they generated 5,258 MWh on Saturday, with a peak output of 876 MW.

It added that 106 distributed generation plants are offline due to a lack of fuel, alongside other generating capacities halted for the same reason.

Cuba is facing a difficult energy crisis, marked above all by the consequences of the tightened economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, which included an oil embargo against the island.

This policy prevents the importation of fuel and spare parts for electricity-generating units.
