The commemorative events began on Sunday, when the country’s top leader, Kim Jong-un, honored the heroes at the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery on Mount Taesong and met with war veterans.
Accompanied by high-ranking officials from the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), the government, and the armed forces, Kim paid his respects at the graves of the fallen combatants.
During the ceremony, the national anthem was played, and floral tributes were laid on behalf of the supreme leader, the WPK Central Committee, and other state institutions.
Kim observed a minute’s silence with those present and then ascended to the Jujak Hill, where he laid flowers before the busts of prominent military figures such as Kim Chaek, Kang Kon, and Choe Hyon.
KCNA reported that Kim underscored the loyalty to the great Leader Kim Il-sung and the fighting spirit of the martyrs as pillars of national identity.
