The State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC) in Madrid held its traditional July 26th demonstration, which this year bore the slogan “It is always the 26th. The struggle continues.”
There was also a specific call to action—”Let’s break the blockade. Cuba needs energy”—referencing the energy and economic embargo imposed by the White House on the Caribbean island.
Organizers highlighted the daily impact of sanctions and the U.S. oil embargo on the Cuban population, as well as the urgent need to step up solidarity campaigns from Spain.
The initiative was backed by the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC), the campaign “It’s time to break the blockade against Cuba,” and numerous solidarity groups, drawing a large turnout from the public on the streets of Madrid.
Separately, at the call of the Francisco Villamil Galician-Cuban Friendship Association, many people gathered before the statue of JosebMarti in Vigo to commemorate Cuba’s National Rebellion Day.
Meanwhile, in Seville and other Spanish cities, the July 26th date was highlighted at various gatherings organized by solidarity groups. jdt/mem/ft
